Why Argentina

Known for its sultry tango, European-style streets and cafés, and gigantic beef steaks, Argentina bustles with cosmopolitan life and attracts over 3 million visitors annually. Besides attracting fashionistas and wine connoisseurs, Buenos Aires has seen a lot of movement and change due to the arrival of multinational companies establishing their regional hubs and offices in the city. Global giants with the likes of Google and MCI have set up shop in Buenos Aires for reasons that the rest of the world are catching on to very fast.

  • Quality Education
Argentina has a literacy rate of 97.2% and has the most developed educational system of South America. Students from all over the globe flock to Buenos Aires to attend their world-class universities. The University of Buenos Aires, one of the top learning institutions in South America, has produced five Nobel Prize winners and provides taxpayer-funded education to over 30,000 students annually. There are over 90 universities with specializations in information technology and among them, the top technology academic institutions of South America. Cordoba and Buenos Aires, Argentina´s two biggest cities, jointly have 23 universities counting with 870.000 students, of which 170,000 study Business Administration and 50,000 Informatics.

The accessibility of quality education translates into a high availability of qualified and highly skilled professionals. In the United Nations Human Development Report 2004, Argentina was No. 1 among Latin American countries for research scientists and engineers.

  • Excellent IT Infrastructure
Argentina is among the top 30 countries with most widespread Broadband Access (DSL lines, cable modems) in the world. In the early 1990´s, Argentina encouraged the growth of modern telecommunications technology by providing tax breaks for developing IT companies. In addition, the Argentine government increased installations of lines in all major cities; major networks were converted to be entirely digital. Growth of mobile telephone density has soared and has reached a level of 80 telephones per 100 persons in 2006. (CIA, the World Factbook). And according to the United Nations Human Development Report 2004, Argentina ranks first among Latin American countries in number of Internet users per capita.

  • Geographical Location (Convenient Time Zone)
Buenos Aires is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST-USA), 4-5 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time (PST-USA), and 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-UK). When speed of response and deadlines become an issue in projects, working with people in a similar time zone becomes a crucial component to a smooth and effective work process.

  • Inexpensive Development Costs
After the devaluation of the Argentine peso in 2001, salaries decreased to 25% below those of Europe and the United States . Low rent, electricity and telecommunications costs make Buenos Aires one of the most inexpensive capitals of the world.

  • Exceptional English Communication Capabilities
The English language has a very strong presence in Buenos Aires. Argentines are extremely motivated to learn English starting at a very young age (elementary school) because of the increase in demand of English speaking professionals at international companies. Moreover, European and North American influences are marked in Argentine culture as a result of media and other cultural influences.

  • Cultural Similarities
Much like the United States, Argentina was largely populated by Western European immigrants. In a line of work where communication and understanding are so important, Argentines are ideal collaborators for North Americans and Europeans because they share communication styles as well as cultural values.
